Welcome to FictionbyJo

Allow me to introduce myself: I am Jo, a Belgian author and illustrator. Or, as I so cleverly describe myself on my Instagram page, I am a feminist Science Fiction and Fantasy loving millennial in a permanent existential crisis. I mean that quite literally, and my stories and illustrations tend to mirror those characteristics.
This is my online showroom so feel free to take a look around. Perhaps you will agree that my work is filled with fantasy, science fiction, anxiety, magic, horror and mental health themes, and most of all: represents me and my chaotic inner world [insert cringeworthy emojis – bc I am a millennial after all]. If you want to buy items with my designs on them, take a look at my online Store.

“Art is not a privilege, it’s a right. It’s a fundamental part of being human.”
~Carmen Lomas Garza, artist and illustrator

I believe that any and all expressions of creativity and imagination are art, and are thus a fundamental part of being human. I also believe that people are many things and are complex, multifaceted beings, that cannot be reduced to one style, one theme, one ‘thing’. If we are lucky we get to keep learning, experimenting and growing all our lives.

As a writer I aim to create in as many forms as possible during my time on this planet – books – short stories – horror – fantasy – thought experiments – novellas – thriller – mental health – psychology – anthropology – observation – invention – philosophical – structured – flowing – etc.

As an illustrator I want to explore all creative materials I can lay my hands on, try out different styles, signatures, expressions, images, experiments, etc. without limiting myself for the purpose of creating a brand.

So take a look around, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do!
Kindest regards,
Jo
